Hello, my name is Cheryl Owens. 

My passion for teaching ASL is the reason I opened my own business, Cheryl’s Learning Center. I teach a variety of American Sign Language classes and private ASL tutoring. 

I have been teaching ASL for many years. My love for American Sign Language started when I was very young. I saw Linda Bove signing on Sesame Street and I was hooked. When I was in elementary school, I went to the bookstore and we purchased Sesame Street Sign Language ABC with Linda Bove. From there my love of American Sign Language continued. I taught myself how to sign the Alphabet continued from there. ASL was not offered as an option in high school. Every year I would teach a few songs in ASL to all the second-grade students at the school where my mom taught. The students loved performing for their parents and the school. 

During college, I took ASL as my foreign language. While earning a BA and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. After college, I have had many opportunities to teach and utilize American Sign Language throughout my career. I worked at a Faith based preschool and taught the kids ASL as, well as when I owned my own Pet Boutique, I was able to communicate with customers using ASL.  

Currently, besides owning my own business, I work for Clovis Unified School District, teaching ASL to Adults year-round and for five weeks every summer, I teach ASL to kids ages 6-13 in the Summer Fun Program.
